In this video, we’ll discuss TSD Points. The AH-64D provides a database of 149 points, with three separate “partitions” for waypoint/hazards, control measures, and target/threats. Waypoint/Hazards are numbered 1 to 50, Control Measures 51 to 99, and Target/Threats 1 to 50.

Points can be used to set navigation, targeting acquisition source, and sent to other flight members over the inter-flight datalink (once available).

Points are a powerful function to build battlefield situational awareness.

AH-64D - Development Progress

The Stability and Command Augmentation System (SCAS) systems are similar in some ways to those in DCS: Mi-8MTV2 and DCS: Mi-24P. These complex systems are currently in advanced development and one of our highest priorities for our AH-64D to perform and “feel” like the real thing.

In parallel, we are also implementing the initial damage model with its effect on systems: flight control, and damage and detachment of surfaces, tail boom, stub wings, and main landing gear.

In this DCS: F-16C Viper video, we’ll look at the dive toss, or DTOS, bombing mode. DTOS allows you to designate a ground location as the Sensor Point of Interest, or SPI, through the HUD or HMCS. This designation can then be used for a CCRP attack using unguided and laser-guided weapons.

DTOS mode can be selected as a bombing mode from the SMS page at OSB 2 or cycled to using the nosewheel steering / missile step button on the control stick.

With DTOS selected and the HUD as the Sensor of Interest, or SOI, a 10 milliradian box is slaved to the flight path marker. You can then either TMS forward to ground stabilize its location or use the radar cursor switch to slew the box and then TMS forward to ground stabilize.

Alternatively, you can set the HMCS as SOI and either ground stabilize the DTOS cue based on the aiming cross or slew and then TMS forward to ground stabilize.

In both HUD and HMCS cases, TMS Aft will slave the DTOS cue back to the flight path marker or aiming cross.

Once ground stabilized and designated, the location is designated as the SPI and standard CCRP steering is provided. When wishing to conduct a visual CCRP attack through the HUD or HMCS, this is the preferred method.

As this will also create a SPI, the targeting pod and Maverick would be handed off to it.

AH-64D - Status




We have made tremendous progress on the AH-64D. Release ready items include the external model and internal cockpit models, pilot and gunner high resolution models, external and internal lighting and sounds, IHADS , MPD pages, PNVS, TADS and sensors, 30mm cannon, Hydra unguided rockets, laser-guided Hellfire missiles, the ASE, CMWS, George AI pilot and phase one of the DM.

Despite suffering from the most recent variant of COVID-19 the team has accomplished a minor miracle and the Early Access is very close to being available for release. However, certain aspects still require extra polish notably; flight control system heading, attitude and altitude hold modes, MultiCrew, cold start, George AI co-pilot gunner, certain crew animations and system damage effects.

We understand that our decision to delay the early access release is frustrating and disappointing. Please accept our apologies. Our commitment is to deliver this exciting new aircraft to you in the nearest future, hopefully in February. Thank you for your patience and understanding. Please remember that the 30% discount and extra ED Miles are still available all the way up to Early Access release.

In order to polish the aforementioned outstanding items, we require more development time into the 1st quarter of the year. We fully appreciate how eager you are to jump into your AH-64D cockpits and we apologise for this added waiting time. We are committed to a quality product at release and kindly assure you it is worth the wait.

AH-64D Pilot Development Progress

We have prepared In Development Screenshots of the recent improvements being made to the pilot model, helmet and gestures. Since the last progress update we have reviewed the overall shape based on a real service helmet - it is quite the piece of kit. We are also working on gesture animations for both the Pilot and Co-Pilot Gunner.

The combat uniform of the aircrew is nearing completion and we look forward to presenting you with two camouflage options. The first is a universal early period camouflage pattern, based on or around the 2005 spec. The pilots' equipment will include a bulletproof vest, an unloading vest, a pouch with a first aid kit, an M4 mag pouch, belts, and a radio. The texture of the helmet is made in such a way that you can draw your individual skins, stickers, attach patches and country flags.

Today we completed one of the biggest gating items for early access release, multi-crew sync. When in networked multi-crew, this is a critical feature that allows both crew members to set the Direct To location, set a Terrain Point, and set a Waypoint/Hazard/Control Measure/Target Point. As you will discover, this is a rather unique aspect of the AH-64D and really shines in network play.

Work on the hold modes is going well, and heading hold us just about done. While you can certainly maintain a stable hover and very easily fly the helicopter without the attitude and altitude hold modes, the implementation of these will allow "hands free" operations and make concealed attacks that much easier.

The cold start procedure is proceeding well, and we can already bring a cold and dark AH-64D to life. Most of the work is now focused on the correct ENG page indications and fire suppression arming and test system.

Initial "George" as the CP/G is now integrated and undergoing initial tests. This allows the player to fly from the rear pilot seat and instruct "George" up front to search for and engage selected targets that it has located.

These are probably the biggest four to-do items for the early access launch, and all are making good progress.

FLIR - Development Progress

For air, land, and sea units and terrain objects, we are developing special thermal textures with several channels that allow heat signatures to adjust based on the activity of the unit, time of day, ambient air temperature, and more. For example, when the engine is started, the engine compartment and exhaust system begin to heat up. After driving, the undercarriage, transmission, wheels and tracks also heat up. Guns and launchers also cool down smoothly with inactivity.

This will be implemented for modules that use modern FLIR sensors, such as the AH-64D, F-16C, A-10C, and F/A-18C.

Mi-24P Hind - Development Progress

Because much of our Mi-24P team has been assisting with the AH-64D project, you may have noticed that updates have been slim recently. Nevertheless, we do have good progress in the weapons department. Work on the rear gunner cabin is finished, and we are working on the gunner model itself and AI behaviour. The rear cabin will contain a Kord 12.7 mm heavy machine gun that you may have tried in DCS: Mi-8MTV2.

Apart from rear gunner position, we are making good progress on integration of the R-60 air-to-air missile. The design of the cockpit panel and functionality aspects of this missile is almost feature complete. We are planning to make this missile available before remodeling IR-missile guidance in DCS.

In the avionics systems department, we have finished work on "Greben" course navigation system code refactoring. We have also worked on the magnetic adjustment capabilities of the KM-2 panel in the front cockpit.

B-1B Lancer - Development Progress

First envisioned in the 1960s as a platform to combine Mach 2 speeds with the payload of a B-52H Stratofortress, the B-1B has supported U.S. and NATO military forces in Afghanistan and Iraq since the early 1990s.

For the B-1B Lancer, a 3D model of The Lockheed Martin Sniper Advanced Targeting Pod (ATP) AN/AAQ-33 was added. We have started animating the B-1B elements. You can see some elements in Development Screenshots.

We are also working on updating many other AI-aircraft models to 2022 DCS standards and look forward to sharing progress with you soon.

Much of our Viper work is now centered on the Link 16/IDM interflight datalink. This is a very important and useful element of the Viper, and currently, our highest Viper priority. With this feature in place, you will be able to:

Link 16 SPI sharing was implemented today. I think this will prove a very handy feature.

With the HSD not SOI, pressing the COMM switch right (inboard) for greater than 0.5 seconds will transmit the player’s SPI to other Mission members. When a SPI message is sent, the XMT L16 label at OSB 6 will highlight for two seconds on the HSD.

The sent SPI is based on the current SPI sensor track. If there is no SPI sensor track, then the current Steerpoint is sent as the SPI.

When the SPI is sent, recipients see it as a large, white “X”, the same as a Mark Point. On the HUD, MKPT## will appear that assigns the SPI location to Steerpoints 71 to 70. “DATA” will be heard as a voice alert. As you can see, it is the same as receiving a Mark Point, but it based on a SPI location rather than a Steerpoint location.

One difference is that if the SPI is created by the TGP or A-G FCR, there will be a lock line between the sender of the SPI (Mission members 1 to 4) and the SPI “X” symbol/location on the HSD. The line will disappear after 30 seconds or by pressing WARN RESET on the UFC.

We look forward to adding this to an upcoming Open Beta.

Also, to answer the posed question, yes, we plan L16 and IDM.
