DCS: F-16C Viper DTC COLOR Partition

As we add to the growing list of DTC features, a notable addition coming in the near future will be editing the MFD color settings within the F-16C avionics. Over 40 different symbology elements may be independently set to one of 8 color options: White, Gray, Cyan, Blue, Green, Yellow, Red, or Magenta. Once configured, the COLR partition may be uploaded by pressing OSB 19 from Page 2 of the DTE MFD format.

Although this DTC feature does not alter any cockpit functionality, it can certainly enhance the player’s experience while adding additional situational awareness to some MFD formats. For example, each of the four geographic lines on the HSD and HAD formats may be colored separately for displaying coastlines, international borders, airspace boundaries, battlefield front lines, or kill boxes.

DCS AH-64D: DTC Development Report

A long-awaited feature for AH-64D players is nearing release. Our DTC and AH-64D development teams have been working hard for many months to expand DTC to its first helicopter module. As the MiG-29, F-16, and F/A-18 modules initially paved the way for many DTC functions, the initial feature set for the AH-64D’s DTC is quite expansive, and in fact includes most of the module’s planned DTC features.

  • 50 Waypoint/Hazard, 49 Control Measure, and 50 Target/Threat points
  • 10 Routes
  • 15 Battlefield Lines and 12 Engagement Areas
  • 8 Priority Fire Zones and 8 No Fire Zones
  • 10 ADF navigation presets, 10 COM radio presets, and 10 pre-composed text messages
  • Pilot and CPG weapon settings, missile channels, and laser codes
  • Customized RLWR threat table and chaff/flare programs

It is worth noting that the AH-64D DTC is actually capable of saving two separate “Missions” simultaneously, with each containing a unique 149-point database, 10 routes, 15 lines, 12 areas, 16 zones, and 10 ADF presets. This allows crews to upload data for follow-on or contingency missions following their primary mission. Alternatively, when operating across a large region like Afghanistan or Iraq, the aircrew’s assigned area of operations (AO) could be divided in half, with the corresponding Mission uploaded from the DTC mid-flight if the aircrew crosses from one sector to the other, thus overcoming the limited onboard memory for depicting numerous FOB locations, FARPs, or Named-Areas-of-Interest (NAI).

Further, the existing capability of the AH-64D’s datalink may be leveraged to transmit portions of these Mission files to other AH-64Ds in multiplayer gameplay.

DCS AH-64D: George AI Pilot Enhancements

Last year we delivered new features and enhancements to George AI Copilot/Gunner (CPG) and a number of improvements to George AI Pilot. This year we have been working on additional features for George AI Pilot to finish expanding his tactical capabilities and streamline the player’s interaction with him. George will now be able to perform complex maneuvers with fewer button presses and will attempt to evade enemy fire or even actively defend the helicopter against close-range threats.

New Combat Maneuvers
When the player is occupying the front gunner seat and George is in control of the helicopter, the player can now command George to orbit a target location, maintain a holding pattern at the current location if the helicopter is too heavily loaded to hover or to conserve fuel, return to a previously designated battle position and hold, immediately descend to low altitude to reduce exposure to air defenses, or mask the helicopter back behind a hill.

Verbal Threat Warnings
George will now remain on the lookout for enemy weapons fire and will warn the player if he sees weapons fire aimed at the helicopter or if the helicopter is being hit, regardless of which seat George is occupying. Naturally, if George is performing CPG duties and is using the TADS, his attention will be focused on the sensor video and won’t be looking around outside for enemy fire; so under some circumstances it may be prudent to command him to cease using the TADS if you would prefer him to look around the helicopter for immediate threats.

New Defensive Actions
If George is flying the helicopter, the player can direct him, in advance, to autonomously evade enemy weapons if the helicopter is engaged, dispense chaff or flares when necessary, or mask the helicopter to low altitude without requiring a command from the player to do so. George may even be directed to autonomously engage nearby enemy units with the 30mm gun turret, to either return fire in self-defense or to engage enemy positions at will. This can be particularly useful when the player’s attention is focused inside the cockpit on the TADS sensor video, FCR scans, configuring weapon settings, etc.

New Power and Energy Management Logic
Finally, the flight logic of George AI Pilot has been further enhanced with improved climb, descent, and turn behavior. When performing break turns or evasive maneuvers, George will turn more aggressively. When at low speeds below 50 knots, George will perform turns smartly by properly coordinating bank angle and yaw; and when at a hover, George will yaw the helicopter more deliberately to reduce the chances of over-torque. When ordered to climb to a higher altitude, George will sometimes augment the climb rate with a positive pitch maneuver to trade airspeed for altitude, but only if the airspeed remains above 60 knots. Conversely, when the helicopter is at low speed or in a hover, and the power margin is limited due to environmental conditions and/or high gross weight, George will lower the nose to prioritize gaining airspeed over gaining altitude to improve the helicopter's climb performance.

Check out a detailed explanation of some of these new features in the AH-64D Mini-Updates post.

Eight New Ground Units by Currenthill

Your battlefield is about to get a lot more crowded. Currenthill is bringing eight new ground units into DCS at no cost, covering everything from a modern American IFV to the trucks and tank transporters that keep an armored column moving.

  • New combat vehicles:
    • M1296 Dragoon IFV — A Stryker-family infantry carrier upgraded with a 30mm XM813 Bushmaster II autocannon in a MCT-30 remote turret, able to engage out to 3,000 meters, plus a coaxial 7.62mm M240C. It entered U.S. Army service in 2017 with the 2nd Cavalry Regiment in Europe.
    • BMP-3 IFV — A replacement for the existing in-sim model. The real BMP-3 has been in service since 1987 and is one of the most heavily armed IFVs anywhere, pairing a low-velocity 100mm 2A70 gun with a 30mm 2A72 autocannon and 9M117 Bastion anti-tank missiles out to 5-6 km.
    • BMP-3 ERA IFV — The up-armored variant, fitted with Kaktus explosive reactive armor, which entered serial production in November 2022.
ZA-SpN Titan MRAP — A 4x4 mine-resistant vehicle built to STANAG 4569 Level III ballistic and 2a/2b mine protection standards, carrying a crew of five with an optional remote weapon station for a 30mm cannon and anti-tank missiles.
  • New logistics muscle:
    • SLT-50 Tractor and SLT-50 Trailer — Modelled on the SLT 50 Elefant, the heavy tank transporter that hauled Leopard 1 and Leopard 2 tanks for the German and Polish armies, with a 52-tonne payload trailer behind a 734hp tractor.
    • HX77 Truck — An 8x8 tactical truck used across NATO logistics fleets, built for general-purpose cargo and load-handling duty.
    • HX81 Tractor — Based on the real HX81 heavy equipment transporter (the German Army's SLT-2 Mammut), rated for towing loads up to 73 tons and a gross combined weight of 130 tons.

Here's the part logistics fans will want to know: the SLT-50 Tractor, SLT-50 Trailer, and HX81 Tractor aren't just new models, both AI units and Combined Arms players will be able to hook and unhook trailers with them. That means proper tank-transporter operations are coming to your missions, not just static hauling.

Eight new units, zero cost to you. Keep an eye on the changelog, we expect these to deliver in the next update.

Updated Static Building Models

We’re pleased to announce that work has begun on updating all of DCS’s classic 3D static objects. This is especially great news for mission and campaign creators, and we’re excited to share a first look at our progress.

Originally built for the Caucasus map and steeped in Soviet-era character, these objects are getting a visual overhaul while keeping their original spirit. You can rest assured that all existing placements in your missions will remain untouched, as the updated models preserve the same design, dimensions, and colour schemes. The real change is in the details: expect a noticeable boost in realism.

We’ve also added two practical upgrades. Each object now features both summer and winter textures, so your missions will look right at home whether you’re flying in July or January. Plus, every object now comes with a proper damaged and destroyed 3D model. No more mysterious craters; when a building takes a hit, you’ll see the results.

This is an ongoing effort, and more objects will follow. Stay tuned for further updates.

Matt ‘Wags’ Wagner 11.10.1968 - 09.07.2026

Dear Fighter Pilots, Partners and Friends,

It is with great sadness that I share the news of the passing of our dear friend and colleague, Matt Wagner, who left us on September 7th after a hard-fought battle with cancer.

I first met Matt back in 1995 when he joined SSI as a producer with the specific job of managing the blossoming relationship with our fledgling company. What began as a professional partnership grew into an enduring friendship that spanned three decades. Matt became a pillar of Eagle Dynamics as our Senior Producer in 2002. His passion and relentless dedication were fundamental to shaping DCS into what it is today, as he became the heart and voice of our team to the world.

Matt was loved and respected by everyone who had the privilege to work alongside him. His attention to detail and deep understanding of the subject matter endeared him not only to our team, but to the combat flight simulation community worldwide. All of you knew Matt, whether through his iconic videos, his tireless presence, or his genuine love for DCS. He touched all of us with grace and kindness.

During his illness, so many of you reached out with incredible generosity, raising funds to help support Matt in his battle for survival. Those funds went to vital use, bringing comfort and support to Matt and his family during their hardest days. On behalf of Matt’s wife, Kumiko, and all of us at Eagle Dynamics, we extend our profound and heartfelt gratitude to every person who contributed. Your kindness meant the world to him and to all of us.

We are devastated by his loss, yet amid the grief, we feel deeply privileged to have known him and to have shared in his journey by our side. Matt was a brave man; his legacy, his spirit, and his impact on our lives and our community will be remembered.

I will miss his soft voice, our daily calls, and his joy for what he did.

Clear skies, my friend.
Nick
