Re: DCS --> LotATC
Ka-50's VHF1 radio, R-828, use frequencies between 20-50 MHz.. with 10 fixed preset channels. You could find it in the ED forum, have a look . If I remember correctly also the A-10C third radio work within the 20-50 Mhz range (more or less).
Unfortunately, Ka-50 won't be able to work with universradio properly unless any aircraft could be able to tune a radio on that freq. Please consider also that Ka-50 VHF-2 (R-800L) work in both VHF/UHF freq, but it's a single radio (I could tune 127.000 or 288.000, but I can't be on both freq at the same time).
Therefore R-828 functionality is essential for us..

Re: DCS --> LotATC
Some vWing work with A-10 Ka50 Mi-8 and UH1.
It's the case in my vWing.
AN-ARC 186 FM of A-10C or A-10A : 30.000 to 76.000 FM
R828's Ka-50, 10 channels from 20.000 to 50.000 FM
R828's Mi-8, 10 channels from 20.000 to 50.000 FM
AN-ARC 131 FM's UH-1 : 30.000 to 76.000 FM
So, common range frequencies is 30.000 to 50.000.
There is a problem with Mi-8. Only one fq common with ka50 (canal 2): 25.675 MHz FM
Neither A-10x and neither UH-1can communicate with Mi-8.
Only one solution for alls there A/C can communicate : edit R_828.lua files
Heli squadron of my vWing (3rd-wing.net) did it.
Other squadron did it.
When I fly (on A-10 since 2009) with my friends flying on Ka50 or Mi-8, here is we configure radio :
A-10C : V = ATC , U = flotilla, FM = muds
Ka-50 : R800 = ATC , R828 = flotilla+muds
Mi-8 : R863 = ATC , R828 = flotilla+muds
with fq :
A-10C : V=xxx, U=xxx, FM=35.000
Ka-50 = R800=yyyy , R828=35.000
Mi-8 = R800=zzz , R828=35.000
We use to work as there. A-10C stays in monitoring of heli with lower volume.
Two A/C in flotilla with two radios take 3 radios. One radio displays common frequency.

A simple question: can CA user & FC3 planes communicate with Ka-50 on R-828? That's what we need

Re: DCS --> LotATC
Hi Tacno,
thanks for the swift answer.
Maybe my question was not clearly put:
We tested the external radio as an "external" entity (E.G.: an ATC controller, a JTAC, a TANKER), not simulating an actual sim aircraft.
In this role, being able to communicate (you can see it as a "compatibility") to as much as vehicles/players/entities possible is the key.
So there is an unambiguous need for an external radio that can reach all the frequencies used by the in-game vehicles (E.G. the KA-50), therefore well below the 120.000 FM.
I hope it's clearer now

Re: DCS --> LotATC
As I wrote, I had the same discussion at 3rd-Wing.
You will have several schools :
First : will want all frequencies, no limit, and get sound effect with UR or an other TS3 plugin.
Second : will want more realistic, a little as me and UR. We can't talk to a Ka-50 on its R828 with a F-15C, because USAF didn't equip F-15C with this radio model or equivalent. However we have to do war (virtual) with. Idem for any russian aircrafst included in FC3 and other modules. They are from russian concept but neither MiG neither Sukhoi have a R828 or equivalent in cockpit.
So, how to do to talk to a Ka-50 ?
Only with VHF 2 R800, there is no other. (as in real life. If Ka50s use R800 for datalink then normally we can't use this radio for talking because data exchange corrupt signal... Same as russian fixed wing aircrafts datalink...) It's not easy and less comfortable.
I note, with v0.0.1.6, than a JTAC can not talk to a Ka50, Mi-8 on their R828. Better is an extension of JTAC radio from 30.000 to 150.000 or add a 3rd FM radio.
Today in DCS according real radios, who can talk with 30.000 to 60.000 MHz FM ? AWACS or tower with LotATC, A-10A , A-10C, Ka-50, Mi-8
I will add JTAC

Re: DCS --> LotATC
In AMVI we are always committed to the best realism achievable, but sometimes you have to compromise aircrafts' tech specification to achieve a better realism level during the mission. The radio net is one of this thing, expecially if you want to fly russian helos with NATO standards, needing the ka-50s to be US equivalent assets. Obviously as you may find in the corresponding manuals, the AH-64 has a very different radio equipment than the Ka-50.
Speaking of planes only, in the current DCS layout there aren't any AWACS or ATC dedicated solution. We don't need any airplane talking with any helo. We only need that tactical commander & game master slots (& loATC slots maybe) to be able to communicate with either planes or helicopters, either using UHF, VHF-AM and VHF-FM frequency. That will allow any people to work as AWACS, FAC (JTAC), ATS and Ground troops roles.
About R-800L1 use:
As stated in the manual, the R-800L1 is used either for datalink and communication with, apparently, no data corruption. I'm not that much into R-800L1 tech specification (if anyone could really know about) to know how they archieved this. I may say that the manual state also that the Ka-50 has 2 R-800L1... I may think that both work on the same freq, one is used for voice and the other for data.... but I always thought that it was simply a manual error. This is a thing that I may look into... and maybe I'll report you any interesting findings, if you like .
